To tunnel local port 5901 to the 1st port for VNC sessions on the host you are sshing into:

ssh -L5901:localhost:5901 <hostname>

For viewing this, xvnc4viewer is closest approach to RealVNC ...

xvnc4viewer localhost:5901

(enter password and you should be in)
